When you’re creating laminated glass, the performance of the final pane depends as much on the interlayer you choose as the glass substrate itself. High-quality laminating films don’t just bond substrates together, they can help define how the final glass product will perform in real-world conditions.
The right interlayer can significantly increase impact resistance, enhance acoustic insulation, and maintain glass integrity by holding shards in place after breakage. For specialized applications, such as security glazing or aerospace windows, interlayers can make the difference between standard protection and advanced resistance against threats like forced entry, bullets, or bird strikes. By choosing the right interlayer film, laminators can deliver superior safety, performance, and durability in every project.
For fifty years, our KRYSTALFLEX® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films have been helping to reinforce glazing in planes, trains, automobiles and military vehicles, providing an additional layer of security in government buildings, and strengthening architectural glass.

Our earliest grades were produced in America at our Ringwood site in Illinois – a facility that remains central to our current manufacturing footprint. Engineered for clarity and flexibility, these optical aliphatic products were developed with low temperature processing in mind. Over the years, we’ve innovated - broadening out our product range for laminators while also standardizing our portfolio to create films in multiple thicknesses and widths that are easy to process and apply.
Today, core products include: KRYSTALFLEX® PE399 TPU, KRYSTALFLEX® PE429 TPU, KRYSTALFLEX® PE499 TPU, KRYSTALFLEX® PE501 TPU and KRYSTALFLEX® PE505 TPU.
Over the years, we’ve also made regular investments in our production set up. For example, in 2020 we constructed a purpose-built TPU manufacturing facility for protective film technologies at our Ringwood site. Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the invention of KRYSTALFLEX®, this investment included fitting out the plant with cutting edge automation equipment.
Today, we continue to innovate at pace. By working closely with our customers, we’re not just keeping up with industry demands - we’re working hard to continually set some of the highest standards in interlayer film performance and safety. From our earliest aliphatic TPU film launches to creating a globally supplied portfolio of laminating films, we’re proud that KRYSTALFLEX® has become a go-to interlayer for clear, tough, and durable safety glazing. If you’re looking to specify a laminating film solution that needs to survive the real world – and still look crystal clear – get in touch today.
